First Holy Communion

At a special session on Saturday, March 21, children getting ready to receive Holy Communion for the first time were able to look at some of the vessels used at mass. They learned that when we gather around the altar to celebrate the Lord’s Supper, we see the “paten” ~ the flat plate-like vessel that holds the host. After the consecration, it holds the Bread of Life, the presence of Jesus, who forms us into one people of God, one community. To let others know how they would show Jesus’ presence after receiving Holy Communion, the children made a “paten” of their own. Their responses included showing love, kindness and forgiveness.
